I'm over the beehives in our ward and thought it would be fun for them to do a ward Easter egg hunt for the kids. The egg hunt was a bit chaotic and some people were late and didn't get any eggs, so I was really stressed about it. I've decided that egg hunts are the black Friday of the spring. Tim tried to help me feel better about it and told me that it was fun for the kids and not to worry about the things that went wrong. It's too hard to make egg hunts completely fair for everyone when there is such a large group.
At home with the kids we are able to set an amount that each kid can find and that has helped at home with egg hunts. Another lady in the Young Women group told me that her mom color coordinated their hunts. I really like that idea. Each kid is assigned a color and can only collect eggs that are that color.
We had a picnic lunch in the gym after the egg hunt for the ward.
We also set up a few games and a photo booth.
I took videos of the older three kids egg hunting too, but they were over the max amount for loading videos on the blog I guess, so here's Livi's.
The kids enjoyed having to find their baskets in the morning this Easter.
One of our new favorite traditions is Resurrection rolls. This was so simple and fun for the kids and I loved how it tied back to what is most important about Easter, our Savior's resurrection. Because of Him, death is just a stepping stone and not the end, and we can all live together again after this life if we do the best we can to live righteously.
The marshmallows represent Christ, clean and pure. The butter and cinnamon sugar represent the oil and spices used on the body after death. The crescent roll represents wrapping the body in linen cloth, and the oven represents the tomb. Once they are done baking, the marshmallow has melted, leaving a hollow center (empty tomb). Love it! I love this link I found to go with it because it has scriptures you can read with your kids as they do each step. http://lynnaemccoy.com/easter-resurrection-rolls-recipe/
The egg dying kit we got this year had you put the egg in a bag with the dye and roll it all around. It seemed to be a lot easier for the kids than the cups, and they didn't have to wait as long for the end results. They were horribly sticky though and the dye felt like nail polish on the egg. This was Livi's first time dying eggs I think. She was asleep the year before, and too young before that.
The kids Easter baskets had battery powered bubble wands and they are amazing!!! They blow so many bubbles at once and the kids just have to push a button! Way better than getting light headed blowing over and over again.
We ended the day with these amazing Resurrection eggs that Grandma made for us. Each egg has an item and scripture telling a part of the story of Christ's atonement, crucifixion, and resurrection. We've loved this tradition through the years! http://www.mormonshare.com/lds-activity/easter-story
It looks like it was happy hunting!! The Easter bunny was genius with the battery powered bubbles!! I loved that the most important gift of all was remembered...our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing Easter! And don't feel bad for the people who were late. You snooze, you lose! I'm sure you did an amazing job planning everything! I loved the Resurrection roll idea! So meaningful!
